PAMCA- Mali Chapter Officially Launched!!

On 24 August, the PAMCA- Mali Chapter was officially launched at hotel de l’Amitié in Bamako, Mali. In attendance were distinguished guests such as the Rector of the University of Sciences, Techniques and Technologies of Bamako, the Deans of the Faculties (medicine, pharmacie and sciences & techniques) PAMCA officals and the media.

The session was led by an opening remarks from the president of the Malian chapter Dr. Mamadou Coulibaly. The Rector of the University of Sciences, Techniques and Technologies of Bamako, Prof. Ouaténi Diallo, officially launched the activities of PAMCA-Mali and paid homage to local pioneers of medical entomology. A total of four presentations was held, with Dr Assetou Diarra, Doctor in Parasitology and Entomology at MRTC-USTTB & representative of women in vector control PAMCA-Mali leading the first presentation where she explained the role of women in vector control. Professor Alpha Yaro, Parasitology and Entomology at MRTC-USTTB, and Secretary General for PAMCA-Mali also gave a presentation on mosquitoes and the diseases they transmit while Dr Modibo Diakité, Veterinary Entomology at LCV and a member of PAMCA-Mali spoke on tick-borne diseases and  Professor Moussa Cissé Public Heath Entomologist/ Senior Project Manager and Scientist Professor at LBMA-USTTB and IPR-IFRA and secretary for PAMCA-Mali talked on the malaria in the mining industry.

The purpose for the formation of PAMCA country chapters is to enable PAMCA to achieve its mission in countries, by providing local leadership, information, and capacity strengthening across all sectors of society facilitating improvement of health and quality of life via the suppression of mosquitoes and vector-borne diseases.

We congratulate the Malian chapter on achieving this important milestone.
